Asiatic Lillies

Posted: 19/09/2013 at 10:37

Hi all,

Another question from me! I have grown an asiatic lilly this year, it flowered wonderfully very pleased with it. Will it need bringing in over winter or is it ok to leave outside? (it is in a pot). Should I cut back its foliage now that its done flowering?

I also have another kind of lilly in a pot, but that one didnt manage to flower unfortunately. It grew some foliage, but no buds developed.. not too sure what kind that one is though..

Thanks!

Poetry corner (such an original title)

I'm pretty bad at poetry, but one that has always stuck with me was called "two cats of kilkenny"

There were two cats of Kilkenny,

and each thought there was one cat too many,

so they fought and they fit,

they scratched and they bit,

until instead of two cats... there werent any..

Thanks for the tips folks! much appreciated.

I have a few snowdrop bulbs knocking about tht someone gave me a while a go. If I wanted them for certain, better off going to a GC then and getting an established plant. I guess i'll put the bulbs in too just to see...  been enjoying using this forum so far! Thank you to all you lovely fellow gardeners!

Snowdrops

Hi all,

I wanted to plant some snowdrops. I will be planting them in pots, any advice on how to best do this and when to best do it? How big a pot will they need and I assume they are ok to leave outside all winter? what should I expect to see as they grow? when will they start?

Thanks!

Flowering out of season

Posted: 16/09/2013 at 12:26

I've had a few seeds come up and flower that the packet said would take till next summer, so thats been a pleasant surprise. Maybe i'm just reading the packets wrong... Harebells and icelandic poppies I think they are.

Collecting Nasturtium seeds

Posted: 16/09/2013 at 09:11

Ah handy! was just thinking about my nasturtiums this morning. This year is the first time I have grown them, I have a variety called "Peeping Tom". is it important to collect the seeds and store them? or should I just let them fall into the planter they're in and that way have them next year too? Also they seem to be a favourite of some kind of aphid, a little black one. They seem to leave most of my plants alone, but the nasturtiums seem to get covered in them sometimes. Is there much I can do inexpensively?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've just finished University, and i've decided that to live a happy life, I would like to look after plants. It really does seem to be the highlight of my day. I was wondering how I should try to turn this hobby of enjoying plants into a career. Would I need to go and get some qualifications to do this?

Thanks!
