Which tool to break soil the best

Posted: 09/10/2013 at 12:10

I think I'd only get something like the tools you have suggested if I had a large area to work.

I know this time of year is a good time to dig the ground over and let the frost break up the clay, I'm sure adding some organic matter will help.

What about clay breaker http://www.greenfingers.com/superstore/product.asp?dept_id=33&pf_id=LT1227D&co=fr&gclid=CMvH3vjNiboCFU_MtAodiyYAyQ

Sorry not much help.

Robin watch

Phew, glad the robin hasn't been caught by the local cat. Like everyone else has said, they like mealworms and are ground feeders.

Saw one once at a garden centre, happily flying amoung the busy garden shoppers and darting in and out of the garden centre shed.

And they love hanging around for worms after you've dug your land over.

Something which looks nice in November

Hello Catherine

An acer sounds nice, something in a pot, so if you ever do move home, you could take it with you.

Does it have to be a plant? What about a nice bird table or bird bath?

Lawn - is something terrible about to happen?

What is your main concern?

Is it the clay base will be poor drainage to a future lawn or the old top soil and grass will ruin the lawn?

Sorry no answers, just thinking out loud.

'The Expert Vegetable Notebook' by Dr D G Hessayon might be worth a flick through, I think I picked mine up at Homebase.

Idea's please on my little plot

My front garden sounds a bit like yours, north facing. In it I have hosta's, dwarf conifers and geraniums, also an azalea where the most sun is caught. I also have bark chip to keep the weeds down.

I tried writing one myself, but ran out of steam and haven't written anything for ages.

I use to take a picture of my garden on the first of the month and hoped to build up a picture of how the garden changes throughout the year, but like I said, I'm not very good at keeping a diary and it all faded out.

..but I know I should start it again, it is fun, even if I'm the only one really reading my own blog.
