Growing onions with Simon

Posted: 15/05/2015 at 14:09

like the videos,

I have grown mine seed (Red Mammoth, Globo) and they are ok but seem quite for small so will take on board learning for next year.

Unfortunately had a visit from the local badgers overnight and they decided to dig over about half of the onion raised bed Managed to salvage about 2/3 but very frustrating

Have you sown any seeds yet this year?

I have always bought bare rooted plants, but have had a few issues in the last couple years, late delivery from supplier. Then this year they stopped supplying so having my 1st go growing these from seed, but not feeling that confident

I took cutting for the 1st time this, has been successful except that the cuttings haven't flowered, so hoping that they will next year. As it doesn't really cost alaot thought it was worth a try

we have recently had several small holes appearing in the lawn overnight, My daughter woke us all up at 4am yesterday morning to tell us that there was a badger in the garden. Mystery solved, but what to do about the holes

Yeah, I'm thinking about taking some cuttings to have a couple of backup plants

Although I've never done this before so will be a new challenge.

Well time for an update I guess, the Mahonia had a very heavy leaf drop compared to other years, but then has gone on to thrive during the summer, pretty much all on it's own. Nice to have a happy ending
