they can start flowering at a foot tall, but keep growing and flowering, becoming quite bushy - enjoy

roses are great in clay.  I'm on similar soil in S.E. England,  irises do surprisingly well - keep their rhizomes above the soil and they get baked - which is good.

brussel sprout seedlings - why no growth ?

I have quite a few seedlings, grown in 2 batches.  The first batch germinated OK, then got to about 4 lvs, before the outer leaves slowly died,  the plants are still alive, but not flourishing (been germinated for months now and are still  small.

I germinated a second batch and the same thing happened.  I transplanted into individual pots, they are in multipurpose compost, on S facing window cill, no draughts, cmompost damp.  What am I doing wrong ? Do they oject to being transplanted when small (I guess I treated them like tomato seedlings).

I definitely wouldn't prune.  Is growth OK on the non-flowering one ? Try a bit of high K fertiliser ?  Diff varieties can flower at different times, but I would have expected you to see the buds by now if you were going to

btw its worth ensuring the holes don't get blocked up, e.g. if resting on soil.  I would put holes in the side nr the bottom too.  I had 2 spuds rot in plastic bins this year, due to blocked up holes.I have now propped the remaining up on bricks.
