Talkback: Seed Club - spring in the greenhouse

Posted: 07/04/2013 at 19:35
The only problem that I have is that I very quickly run out of space within my greenhouse and only have a number of suitable windowsills in the house. It would be nice to be able to get some of the veg plants outside and in the ground.

Peony Tree

Which have you bought?  Herbaceous peonies are pretty straightforward to look after. Don't plant too deep, mulch every year and divide when necessary. I do not follow the general rule which states that you should not move once planted. Yes, its ideal not to move them, but you can get large numbers of plants by dividing every five years or so. I have had no problems using this method. As for Tree peonies, I find the most important advice is to stake early to avoid collapse.

what jobs done over easter.

Not much other than continue to move snow off plants. Hoping that the weather changes soon as I am running out of space in the house and greenhouse.

To dig or not to dig?

Posted: 31/10/2012 at 22:24

I have used the no dig method this year for the first full season. I can fully recommend it as well. I have spent far less time weeding, and the plants seem to have been bigger despite the wet weather. I would also recommend Charles Dowding's books on the subject as they go into more detail about getting going.

Spring Bulb Supplier?

I have used GEE-TEE bulbs a couple of times for bulbs and plants and haven't had a problem with them. Prices are reasonable and delivery is fast.

New site - is it easy to use?

I have to say I am rather impressed. The homepage is really bright and clear, with the detail in the jobs to do now very good. A very good start to the new site.
