Posted: 10/02/2014 at 21:53

thanks for the replies, loving the herb ideas and things more scented as i have a 1 year old and she would love it. Hiding the fence i never thought of, so ill look at that as well, but dont realy want it to spill on to the drive. You've given us loads of ideas now, will have a think, Thanks again.

Planting in a small gravel boarder

Hi,

I've got a small gravel boarder down the side of my drive way up against a fence, its very small only 10 inch wide but about 20 metres long, its south facing so gets some sun but not all the time.

Can anyone suggest any plants that could go there all the way along, was thinking of daff's but would like something a bit different and perhaps all year round.

Any help would be great, thanks.

sowing grass seed

Posted: 21/03/2013 at 09:06

hello all,

i have a large area that im going to try and grass. the area last year was skimmed with a digger when we had a patio done (this was prob the time to do it), but now its had 10 months to start sprouting weeds and other things. its not over grown, whats there now is only 6 inch or so high.

My idea was to get a rotavator, turn it all over, as its a bit uneven cause of the digger tracks, stomp all over it to flatten, then seed it. Ive chosen seed cause of cost and im in no rush for it. also i dont want a perfect green area, was going to add the odd medowy type flowers anyway.

Could anyone tell me if this would work or if there is another way.

Thanks in advance for any help

hello,

i went on holiday for a month and my friend was ment to water and air the little green house i have but forgot, toms not looking well, chillis dead and strawbs gone, basicaly its all lost as its been vrey hot here.

What sort of things if any could i start now from seed or small bought plants that i could grow and eat, things that dont need to come inside when it starts getting cold in a couple of months, no more room on the windows.

Thanks for any advice.

all veg and herb and what to do now

Posted: 15/06/2012 at 19:42

hi,

my veg beds have taken off a treat, its my first year at this and am so happy with what i have acheived, there will be 4 more raised beds going in for next year ha ha. My question now is what do i do and how long it takes...........i have potatos, cabbage, brocali, beetroot, carrots, onions, garlic, lettice and mangetout peas in the raised beds, all were planted at the start of march.

Also i have a hugh herb pot with, mint, lemon balm, thyme, roesmary, chive and coriander, all are sprouting and growing like a goodun.

My questions are....can i trim the herbs and will they keep growing, if so how much,  and will they all last during the winter.

And for the veg, when do i know when to start uprooting stuff (potatoes, carrot, beets onions, garlic)  and do i just wait till the cabbage and lettice get to the size i want, also how big will the mangetout get before beans appear, they are approx 4 1/2 foot now.

Any help/advice would be so welcome, like i say this is my first year and it would be a shame to ruin it now, and hopefuly i can help people next year, i have enjoyed going out looking after them and watching them grow, it's a hugh buzz.

Thanks.
