Posted: 20/04/2014 at 15:46

Hi Bob

Top Left  your squashes

Top Right your pumpkins

Bottom Left your cucumbers

Bottom Right your courgettes

Compost bins on soil

Posted: 20/04/2014 at 15:02

We have a large compost heap at the bottom of the garden but I never throw my veg peels on there because I don't want to encourage the rabbits even more. They have chewed my evergreen honeysuckle right down to the ground and all the leaves are now dying off !

It does however seem such a shame for the veg peelings to go to waste so I was wondering if perhaps I should keep them in a closed bin first and once not appealing anymore then add them to the heap.

Could this work ?

ah man... in Durban where I come from you would feel stuffed after eating one avocado. Its so big that you can only eat half of the fruit. The skin should be purple, then you know its ready. If it is dark brown you might still be able to eat it... if ts black, it could be rotten x I still struggle to buy a ripe avo in the shops cos its not the same fruit I am use to .

Toms too early ?

Posted: 31/03/2014 at 20:33

I've made the mistake of planting my tom seed to early in an unheated greenhouse .they are 2 cm tall now and I planted them 3 weeks ago if not 4.  I am not going to panic, will just sow more seeds now that its warmer, they should catch up . A friend of mine once told me that I should brush my hands over my tom plants a good few times a day once they 5cm tall or higher, this mimics the wind and makes the stems stronger !

being south African ive grown an avocado from pip

it would never have fruited so I threw it away after a very cold snap when the whole plant turned black.  sad really ..  would love an avocado tree in my garden here in Cambridge.  I didn't have a greenhouse back then and if I was grow another, is there a particular avocado that would fruit ?
