David Austin Roses, are they worth it?

Posted: 06/01/2016 at 17:16

No, I don't think they are Sam

I am not a lover or grower of roses here but planted plenty

earlier this year I purchased a David Austin Olivia Austin rose direct from the growers. It is advertised as having a strong scent but it seems to have none at all.  I contacted David Austin but without satisfaction........unusual for me.  Mine was part of a batch bought by a friend.....none of them seem special. I paid almost £20 If I recall correctly. .....bit pricey to say the least.

I would shop around for price and then gauge reviews.  Look through catalogues and compare.  Choose the variety you want and compare prices.

buy bare root now....much better value than potted plants and usually bigger (root systems)

Whatever you grow NGLittleSeedlings sow your seed asap.  Onions need a long growing season....traditionally they are sown on xmas day

Been pretty good here today.  Could have cut the grass in fact!   Again

feeling a little colder and, yes, the weather will soon be "normal" again.

Not really a bird feeder lydiaann........usually put out some fat balls when cold.  Do they need feeding right now though?  Lots of birds here, the ground is soft and plenty of natural food around....?   (Reminds me to net the gooseberries this year )

Having tried various onions from seed I consider The Kelsae to be the best.  Mild flavour, keeps well, can grow huge or small....according to spacing....and looks darn good in the veg plot especially at harvest time when ripening in the sun.

agree or disagree?
