Hi sotongeoff

Thank you so much.  My husband made me a sand box with heating cables under the sand would you put them in the box then on a low heat?

Could someone tell me please if when you take geranium cuttings you have to put a plastic bag over the cuttings to stop from drying out? Is sharp sand/compost okay for them to root in.   I've never taken them before.

We have recently moved our Syringa President Grevy lilac shrub to the front of the house.  Could anyone tell me does the roots travel?  Is the house safe!!

christopher 2.  Thanks christopher will get some tissue paper and do what you said.  Although I think I've had it for this year with my dahlias but I certainly will be well prepared for next year.  Thank you for all your help.  Lucky you going to the national dahlia collection.

christopher 2.  Thanks for this advice.  I had a reply back from Craig Loan of Gardeners World and he has solved the problem.  Please see attached picture.  It's the earwigs after all.  Little devils.  Even when the flowers do try to emerge there are only a couple of petals on them.

christopher2.  Oh no I just literally dead headed and didn't cut back to new shoots.  I had 50 or so buds on my dahlia and only about 3 flowered the rest looked like spent flowers.  Oh yes slugs and snails lurking everywhere.  Thanks for this I will cut back to new shoots in future.

Thanks again.  I have tried dead heading and I don't get any more buds.  I don't get any flowers to begin with just these.  If I dead head all there would be left would be leaves ha ha.  Yes It does look as though they have already flowered - I wish!! Wonder if Monty Don would know.

Thank you so much for your replies.  All the dahlia's in the picture will not flower.  I have so many.  I'm afraid it's not just this year that it's happened it happened last year as well.  Wonder if its some sort of disease or bug that gets to them.  They only grow about 24".  It seems that the smaller ones are more prone than the 36" ones.
