Keeping cosmos

I love Cosmos, but it is an annual, and would be best to grow from seed the following year.  I have had the odd seedling from old plants though.  They like poor soil too, so a good plant to grow just about anywhere.

Primrose

I have primroses and hardy primula and they both flower in the sping, but the primroses or polyanthus out in the garden centres now usually keep flowering through the winter but in a sheltered spot. I have muscari, which adds a lovely splash of blue to the spring colour.  Also, you may find of interest, the hardy varieties of primula which have tall stems and pom pom flower heads, they look really good in spring and early summer.

Writing a Name on a pumpkin

No, haven't tried writing on a pumpkin skin, but I had a good result on a banana skin!  Just score the skin with something sharp.

Thanks for replying!  I only started a compost bin last year, and was surprised at the results!  When I think of what I paid for my 'garden centre tomato plants' too! Anyway I am keeping an eye on these 'little devils' and looking forward to tasting the end results.

Alium bulbs

I have alium bulbs in my garden which keep coming up every year.  They are hardy and I would say it is a good time to plant them out.

Has anyone had tomato seedling plants which have grown from disgarded tomatoes thrown into the general garden compost bin.  I mixed some garden compost with garden soil before I planted my sweetpea seeds then later found tomato seedlings growing too.  I transplanted these into pots and put them into my greenhouse, and I now have tomatoes growing from the plants.
