HELLO FORKERS!

Posted: 14/04/2015 at 19:40

We did a lot of preparation work beforehand, digging the holes, measuring and getting the levels.

In truth, the most demanding part was getting four strong people in the same place on the same day, its heavy to lift and we needed all those pairs of hands etc.

The instructions said to attach the curved struts before erecting but OH says they marred our ability to get the posts absolutely straight in the holes although its hardly leaning and I'm perfectly happy which is all that matters.

More than I could have hoped for

view of the other side, small rubbish heap and messy paving slabs that need relaying but at least the sun is going down enough to see through my camera lens

I'll shut up posting now or bore you all to death. The men spent time debating every angle and how true the thing is but to be honest, I could not have asked for more given none of them do this sort of thing for a living. a few climbers and shrubby stuff with mask any millimetres off and I'll happily live with its organic beauty.

Bathed and feeling human again

Congrats to SGL !! I'm sure you will make the best nanna ever

Thanks for the pergola thumbs up guys, I'm not a nanna yet and think I have a few years yet to wait but three strapping sons come in handy

bekkie, how many trees have you got for the chop girl?  That conifer hedge must have been extensive

Yvie, patience? Are you really going to throw out the Wisteria? It's a costly plant to begin with and so darn beautiful when it does flower...maybe one more year?

It's been a magnificent day, OH has a touch of sunstroke although the pergola got put up before his mega headache kicked in.

Afraid this is the only decent picture so far since the sun is really bright, my camera wont adjust lower than 100 speed and I can't find my software that adjusts brightness digitally.

Anyhow, you get the idea

Son's are suitably sated on Mum's cooking and busy downing bottles of Cider, I'm off for a long soak in the bath, hands feet and hair feel rough as old rope, lots or finishing off and planting to be done this week

and I've got a pair of sparrows in one of our newly installed nest boxes, well that didn't take long now did it

I love Wisteria and I remember how stunning Chicky's  looks

Thanks for the good luck wishes today folks, I am excited, was awake early this morning and the sun is already blazing here. Will be feasting later with all my sons around the table which a mother loves  but also have some solid gardening to do during the day.

Apart from pergolas to erect, I have PPPs to decide on and no more faffing about, everything is growing away now, the weather is here, the birds are chasing each other and I am beginning that well known ritual of taking the garden furniture out in the mornings and away at night

Can anyone offer advice on Yuccas, I know they get big (even in our climate?) and is a generous four foot spread in a raise bed enough, its beside a path (yes I know what they say) but the path is two foot wide as well

I do have a safer spot for it if needs be, I just always want what I cant have

Advice please
