hi heather welcome to you. I'm still new here myself not too new to gardening. If your renting Heather take your before and after photo's, If you move you could always show the landlord, "never mind the mark on the wallpaper, look what i've done to the garden" I want my full bond back.  

I'm sure if you get stuck you will find the help you need on here.

Yes val thats normal with lupins it's all over very soon, but a great show while it last. You could as punkdoc say's collect the seed pods when ready and plant up for free plants next year, the one you have will be back spring next year for an early summer flower. If you chopped the dead heads of sooner, without the plant wasting energy on seed making, you might of got a second flush of smaller flowers. I find the second flush is always much smaller.

If there was no blossom it's wont fruit as the blossom goes on to form the fruit. if it's not happened by now it wont untill next year. Did you give any fertilizer, i find Q4 a few times year works well for me.

  I'm very happy with it. I could not bring myself to plant it.  It's the first plant ive had that i've not known where to put it. I need to sleep on it and see how it looks tomorrow.

I like galvanised i remember my grandad using one dunking it in big blue barrels. I use a small galvanised one for my house plants. it sit's proudly on my kitchen windowsill.
