Plant overview
A fast-growing, deciduous tree that looks superb planted as a specimen in a sheltered spot in the garden. Large, goblet-shaped, rich purple blooms appear in mid-spring before the long, mid-green leaves. A lovely shrub that does need space to grow and prefers a lime-free soil.

Garden care
Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches after flowering. The best time to plant is in April, adding plenty of peat to the planting hole, in a sheltered spot. Mulch in spring with manure and leafmould, especially on dry soils
