Plant details
This beautiful Japanese maple is fantastic for autumn colour. It has large, seven-lobed, mid-green leaves, 10cm to 12cm (4in to 5in) long, which turn bright red in autumn. Like other Japanese maples, it needs a sunny or partially-shaded spot sheltered from cold winds. The soil should be moist but well-drained. It is suitable for growing in a large container, using John Innes No 3 compost, but must be kept well-watered. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

About a month or two ago my wife lost two of her acers, they just seemed to die within a few days and are now just brown stems, have you any idea what could have caused this?. Many thanks.

gardener44 I am wondering if you have checked for vine weevil? If these were my plants I would treat the others now with Wine Weevil killer (systemic) as it's probably too late in the year to use organic (nematodes). Also, if you treat now uit will not be around to poison bees in the spring.

gardener44, did you make sure that it didn't go in the wind and keep it in partial sage as well?
