Plant details

Acer palmatum is a deciduous, woody shrub native to parts of Asia and Russia. There are many garden-worthy cultivars available, which have been bred for their leaf shapes and colours.

Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Ornatum' has pretty lace-like, filgree leaves which turn from rich to yellow in autumn.

For best results, grow Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Ornatum' in moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. It's also suited to growing in a container. Protect it from the harshest winds, which may cause leaf scorch.

Poppyfield

I have an established Japanese maple grown in a large container and over the last week its leaves have become dry and brittle. Can you offer advice on the best treatment?
