Plant details
Japanese maples are one of the best small trees for the garden. 'Ornatum' is no exception, and is well-loved for its lace-like, filgree leaves which are green in summer, then yellow in autumn. Like other Japanese maples, it needs a partially shaded spot which is protected from cold winds. The soil should be moist but well drained. It is suitable for growing in a large container, using John Innes No 3 compost, but must be kept well watered.

Poppyfield
I have an established Japanese maple grown in a large container and over the last week its leaves have become dry and brittle. Can you offer advice on the best treatment?
