Yarrow, Achillea, are short-lived perennials with flat, plate-like umbels which stand tall above fern-like foliage. Achillea 'Coronation Gold' is a tall-growing variety, bearing golden yellow blooms over a long period. It makes a fantastic cut flower.
Yarrow thrive best in a hot, sunny border, where they will quickly fill gaps. Grow Achillea 'Credo' towards the back of an informal, mixed herbaceous border, in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Stake plants before flowering. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and either cut back blooms in autumn or leave the seedbeds in situ for the birds. Lift and divide congested clumps every three years, in autumn or spring.
