Plant details

Native to western United States, this tender perennial has licorice-scented leaves. Easily raised from seed each spring, plants should be put in the garden after the danger of frost has passed in early summer. They enjoy a sunny spot in well-drained soil. From summer to early autumn, they produce purplish-blue flowers that are a magnet for bees. This plant adds interest to borders and containers while attracting wildlife to the garden.
