Plant details
Shallots are popular for their distinctive flavour, and are easy to grow. 'Pikant' produces high yields of reddish brown shallots with a superb flavour. It is a bolt resistant variety and can be planted much earlier. It also stores extremely well. Plant shallot sets from February to April in rows 30cm (12in) wide and 23cm (9in) between bulbs. When the leaves turn yellow, lift the shallots and allow them to dry in the sun. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free place. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
