Aruncus dioicus is a hardy perennial bearing fern-like foliage, from which plumes of cream-white, astilbe-like flowers appear in summer. It’s perfect for a a damp, shady corner or bog garden, but is equally happy in sun, as long as the soil remains moist. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the prestigious Award of Garden Merit.

Aruncus dioicus 'Kneiffii' is similar to the species but is smaller and more compact, and with prettier, more filigree foliage. Grow in moist to boggy soil in sun to shade, ensuring the soil doesn’t dry out if growing in sun. Cut back after flowering and divide congested clumps in spring.
