Plant details
Juicy purple or white sprouting broccoli is one of the first young crops of the season, always appreciated when other fresh vegetables are in short supply. Cutting can start as early as January, and often continues until May, effectively bridging the gap before other crops are ready. It is a good idea to sow two or more varieties to extend the harvest, and sometimes mixtures of all the different kinds are available. Cut the tender young shoots frequently, because leaving them to flower will decrease the yield.
