Plant details

One of Nigel Colborn's favourite plants for chalky soil, 'Royal Red' is also an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) holder. As tough and easy to grow as any of the butterfly bushes, it bears large panicles of dark red-purple flowers, up to 40cm (16in) long, from summer to autumn. As its common name suggests, butterflies flock to it when it is in bloom.
