The parlour palm, Chamaedorea elegans, is a popular houseplant grown for its attractive light green fronds. On NASA's list of 50 Indoor plants that clean the air, it's fantastic for filtering and purifying stagnant air, and is a popular choice for groing in the work place. Tiny yellow flowers occasionally appear from spring to autumn, followed by small black fruit.

Chamaedorea elegans is found growing in the wild in Mexico and Guatemala. for best results grow in houseplant compostin a bright spot, shaded from full sun. Water regularly during the growing season and feed monthly. During winter, keep teh compost on the dry side. Repot pot-boun plants in spring.
