Plant details

The intertwining stems, clad in bronze-tinted foliage make a superb backdrop for the pink flowers which bloom abundantly in early summer. Not only will it quickly cover a fence, shed or pergola but looks great smothering a stone wall, scrambling over old tree stumps or up into a large, old apple tree where there is plenty of room for it to spread, which should always be a consideration - it is a large, vigorous plant and needs a large space. Prune after flowering to make space for new growth, removing dead, damaged or diseased stems. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
