Plant details

A cross between Clematis 'Gypsy Queen' and Clematis viticella, Clematis 'Negritjanka' is a robust, fast-growing clematis with large, open flowers. It's one of the darkest flowered clematis available, its dark plum-purple blooms bearing contrasting yellow-white anthers.

Grow Clematis 'Negritjanka' in a container where you can train it up an obelisk, or allow it to scramble though a shrub or small tree in the herbaceous border. It looks particularly good when grown through white-flowered shrub and climbing roses.

Being a summer-flowering clematis, Clematis 'Negritjanka' is in Pruning Group 3. Simply cut stems back to the lowest pair of buds in February or March.
