Plant details
This is distinctly different from most other clematis. In early spring it is completely covered in small creamy white flowers that have very small petals but large bunches of stamens, giving the plant a whiskery look. As it is a very small growing species, it is often grown in a pot or in a rock garden without any support so it forms a neat mound. It can also be trained onto a low wall, but needs tying in place since it does not climb naturally. In cold districts it is best grown in a pot and moved under cover in winter, where it remains until after the flowers are over.
