Plant details
Previously known as 'Silver Stripe', this attractive pampas grass makes a compact, slow-growing plant with white-margined leaves and silvery white plumes. Plants are best tidied annually to keep them free from debris which otherwise builds up and chokes out new growth. Wear gloves when handling the plant as the leaves have sharp edges. In late winter, comb through the plant and cut out the old leaves and stems. Some gardeners set fire to their plants to remove this dead material but care needs to be taken as this can get out of control and damage the plant. The plumes can be cut and dried for flower arranging, but are superb left in the garden where they look lovely rimed with frost in the winter.
