Plant details
On the borderline between a small tree and a large, multi-stemmed shrub, it's grown for its dark purple leaves. The green catkins produced in February and March are the second attraction, as are the edible nuts. Use 'Fuscorubra', sometimes still sold as 'Purpurea', as a dark background for a range of border whites which will really stand out against the dark foliage.
