Plant details
Bred by amateur breeder Dave Bates, 'Amgrad Sahara' is not widely available. It is a collerette type in an unusual shade of bronze-orange. It was named after Dave's son whose sandy-coloured hair has earned him the name of DJ Sahara in the Ibiza nightclub where he works. Like most dahlias, it is tender when grown in the UK. Plant after the danger of frost has passed in late spring and then lift the tubers after the foliage is blackened by the first frosts of autumn. The tubers can then be stored indoors over winter.
