Dianthus cruentus is a pretty alpine pink, native to the Balkans. It has tall, upright flower stems on which clusters of pink-red flowers appear in late spring and summer, which contrast beautifully with blue-green, evergreen foliage. Easy to grow, the feld pink is also very attractive to bees and butterflies.

For best results grow Dianthus cruentus in moist but well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil, in full sun. It's perfect for growing in rockeries, at the front of borders, and in containers. Lightly cut back plants after flowering to promote new growth, and prune again in spring to maintain a neat shape. Ensure the plants are not exposed to extremely wet conditions in winter.
