Echeveria are attractive succulents, usually grown in Britain as houseplants, forming evergreen rosettes of fleshy leaves. There are many varieties and cultivars to choose from within the genus, from compact plants ideal for windowsill displays, to larger specimens better suited to growing in the conservatory or greenhouse. Echeverias flower in summer, but they are mostly grown for their foliage.

Echeveria 'Perle Von Nürnberg' bears rosettes of pale, blue-green foliage with pink mottling. Younger leaves, growing towards the centre of the rosette, have a more intense pink colouration. In summer coral pink flowers appear on long, red-stems. 'Perle Von Nürnberg' is hardier than many other echeverias, and can withstand temperatures down to -3°C.

For best results grow in pots in well-drained compost, in a sunny position. Water sparingly and bring indoors in autumn if growing outside.
