Common woolly sunflower, Eriophyllum lanatum, is a common, herbaceous sunflower native to western North America. It bears masses of bright yellow, sunflower-like blooms above silvery foliage. It quickly forms a dense clump and makes excellent, cheerful ground cover. While hardy throughout the British Isles it may struggle in areas of altitude, and may need protection in winter.

Grow Eriophyllum lanatum in well-drained soil in full sun. Cut back blooms after flowering to encourage a second flush. There’s no need to prune in autumn. Protect from severe winter weather.
