Plant details
This elegant bamboo makes dense clumps of very tall, pencil-slim canes, purple-black in colour and topped by airy spays of evergreen foliage. The clumps spread very slowly and each year's new growth is taller until plants reach their maximum height. Suits a sheltered border - it does not tolerate exposed sites. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
