Plant details
The clusters of pure white, pendent flowers, like bunches of snowdrops, are halesia's superb spring flourish, and earn the shrub a position of prominence in the garden. Even out of bloom, plants are handsome and very shapely, but they have a second season of colour in autumn when the grey-green foliage turns bright yellow. The North American species H. carolina is a large shrub, eventually a small tree unless limited by pruning, for a sheltered spot in full sun (plants also tolerate some shade), and grows well on most non-acid soils. Also known as H. tetraptera.
