Witch hazels are grown for their attractive flowers, which are produced in late winter and early spring, when most other plants are dormant. They require an acid soil to thrive, but can be grown in large containers.
Hamamelis x intermedia 'Strawberries and Cream' bears beautifully contrasting flowers, with yellow tips which deepen to a pinky-red towards the base. For best results grow Hamamelis x intermedia 'Strawberries and Cream' in fertile, moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil, in sun or partial shade. Remove crossing or diseased branches in early spring, and apply a mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant.
