Plant details

There are about 100 different species of hebes, the popular evergreen shrubs, and many more cultivars created for use in gardens, as they're suitable for a range of sites. Used in shrub borders, ground cover or hedging, flowers come in a range of colours from pinks, to blues and whites. Less hardy types can be grown in cool glass or alpine houses and some varieties are even used to decorate rock gardens. Hebe ‘Paula’ is a round, evergreen shrub that bears narrow, glossy leaves with reddish new growth. The flowers open on dense racemes, in a bold pink-purple colour, but fade as they get older.
