Plant details
Small mound-forming Hebes tend to be hardier than larger varieties, and make very attractive neat plants for edging or containers - one way to ensure success with doubtful varieties is to plant extra deeply, with at least 4-5 buds below soil level to revive should frost injure the topgrowth. Plants flower best in full sun, and must have well-drained soil with some humus such as compost worked in to prevent the roots from becoming too dry. Hebes are drought-tolerant, have evergreen foilage and flower prolifically throughtout the summer. After flowering, sheer back flowering stems to keep the plant full. 'Bowles' Hybrid', often sold as 'Bowles' Variety', is a charming variety, perfect for the rock garden.
