Plant details

Helianthus, known as sunflowers due to the way the flower heads follow the light from the sun, come in a large range, from the popular and common giant, to a multitude of smaller varieties, most of which are yellow and include double flowered forms. Helianthus annuus is the larger species, with broad and bristly, heart-shaped leaves, producing flower heads that grow up to 30cm wide. All Helianthus should be planted in a sunny position, with moist but well drained soil. Helianthus annuus 'Mezzulah' produces bright yellow petals with a dark center.
