Plant details

Of all the sunflowers, Helianthus annuus includes the largest species and cultivars. Some flower heads can be produced up to 30cm wide. Native to the USA, these plants have bristly and toothed broad leaves. They are quick growing annuals that should be planted in a sunny position, in moist but well-drained soil. Helianthus annuus 'Moulin Rogue' produces dark red blooms that can be used in combination with other sunflowers for stark contrast.
