Plant details

Sunflowers are one of the easiest and most rewarding plants to grow from seed. Their large seeds are easy to sow, quick to germinate and produce a strong, bright green stem that rapidly develops. Sow the seeds in good soil where they are to flower, and keep a close watch on young seedlings as they're a favourite for slugs and snails. This cultivar is one of the tallest sunflowers available, and makes an ideal addition to the back of a summer border. Alternatively, it can be planted to provide summer shade from the sun, or to hide an unsightly shed or fence. Birds adore the seeds produced in the heart of these sunny yellow flowers, so grow a few plants close to the house and watch them feed in the autumn.
