Heucheras are attractive, mound-forming plants, perfect for growing in light shade. There are many heuchera cultivars to choose from, coming in a range of unusual colours and forms.

Heuchera 'Midnight Bayou' bears mounds of large, rounded purple-red leaves, with distinctive black veins that mature to purple. Grow it in partial shade towards the front of the border, or in containers to brighten up a shady spot, in moist but well-drained soil or compost. Trim away tired foliage in spring.
