Plant details

A superb, quick-spreading, slender-stemmed plant which needs to be grown in a container at the edge of a pond. Place in shallow water, no more than 15cm (6in) deep, or alternatively in the heavy wet soil of a bog garden. You are much more likely to come across its popular relative f. spiralis making a tangled mass of curly shapes, but if you want an eye-catcher, 'Gold Strike' is the one to get.

Family: Juncaceae

Genus: Juncus

Species: effusus

Cultivar: Goldsrike

Plant type: Hardy perennial

Every other reference I've seen says 'Juncus effusus f. spiralis' needs *acid* soil, yet here it says chalky/alkaline! Also the photo is untypical of f. spiralis because it doesn't show the characteristic corkscrew leaves; I suspect it might be a different rush altogether.
