Plant details

This is a spectacular species, considered by some connoisseurs to be the finest lily of all. A large group in full flower is a magnificent sight, with each stem bearing several 20-25cm (8-10in) open funnel-shaped blooms, white with yellow markings and red spots, and very prominent anthers protruding from the throat. They are woodland plants, accustomed to growing in the shade of neighbours but with their heads in sunlight. Plenty of moisture while in growth, good drainage and no lime are the essentials for success.
