Holder of the Royal Horticultural Sociiety's prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM), 'Merrill' is highly recommended variety of this attractive magnolia. It makes a vigorous small tree that is compact in habit. Each spring, its bare branches are covered with white flowers which are goblet-shaped at first, becoming star-shaped as they open. Unlike many magnolias,M. x loebner will tolerate moist chalky soils. It enjoys a sheltered spot in full or partial shade.

How to protect the flowers that have started to open from frost as this weekend is going to be frosty?

I have a large magnolia tree in the garden which at some pont must have split,its now got 1 large trunk with 3 huge branches off,its full of blooms at the moment,one of the branches is hanging over my rockery and i would like to know if we can cut this off without killing or harming the tree.
