Plant details

This Japanese crab apple is a lovely tree for the garden, earning its keep in the garden throughout the season, from the moment its arching branches are studded with deep pink buds until its leaves fall, leaving the plant decked with small, bright yellow fruits. It is a versatile species, trained as a single- or multi-stemmed small tree on its own, when it can reach as much as 10m (30ft) high. Flowering is lavish, with the pale pink blooms from mid to late spring. It has been given an Award of Garden Merit (AGM), which is for plants of outstanding excellence.
