Plant details
This plant is just what you'd expect from a cactus. The dark green, spherical stems form clusters and are covered with white spines. If you pot it up in standard, free draining, cactus compost and give it the right conditions, you may be lucky enough to get it to produce flowers. These are striking, reddish violet, pink or white and appear in summer. It does best in a position with bright light and a little shade from direct, hot sun. Water from mid-spring to summer, but only sparingly in winter and feed once a month with a special cactus fertiliser. It hails from Mexico and requires a minimum temperature of 70C (50F).
