Plant details
A weird and wonderful Chinese native, it's grown for its large, sturdy, paddle-like, grey-green leaves and incredibly large, star-shaped, yellow flower. Grow outside over summer, where a sheltered, sunny position is vital or the leaves might get ruined by winds. Water regularly and give it a monthly feed, but keep just moist in winter when it needs to be moved into a frost-free greenhouse or conservatory. For more plants, or just a new smaller one when the parent gets too big, detach a sucker and plant up.
