Plant details
Carlton' is one of the most popular of the large-flowered narcissus as it blooms earlier than most. Its flowers are a fine strong yellow with a large trumpet. It can tolerate most soils that are well-drained but moist during the growing season. Plant bulbs at one and half times their own depth in sun or partial shade. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it their Award of Garden Merit (AGM) in recognition of its outstanding excellence. Daffodils will sometimes fail to flower. Common causes are bulbs being planted too shallowly, damage to the foliage the previous season, and clumps becoming too congested.
