Plant details
An excellent water lily for the smallish pond. With modest growth, it spreads mid-green pads on the water interspersed with deep burgundy, cupped flowers, verging on black in the centre, with the outer petals slightly paler. Submerge the containers to a depth of 23-45cm. In large ponds, the roots can be planted directly in the mud at the bottom. As with all lilies, avoid fountains and running water as they dislike the movement. If possible, feed twice a year with special water lily tablets inserted into the compost, and divide every five years or so.
