Plant details
Olearia is a large and variable genus of mainly evergreen shrubs or small trees from Australasia, differing markedly in their hardiness. This species is a handsome and impressive shrub, very reliable in mild areas and seaside gardens where it is often planted as a hedge or windbreak. Inland, it needs the shelter of a warm wall where its sage-green holly-like leaves, white and downy beneath, provide mellow colour all year. The flowers, like golden eyed white daisies, are produced in huge heads which almost smother the bush. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
