Plant details

Olearia is a large and variable genus of mainly evergreen shrubs or small trees from Australasia, differing markedly in their hardiness. O. x scilloniensis, sometimes listed as O. stellulata De Candolle, is a fine shrub that can exceed 2.5m (8ft) in mild and maritime gardens, much less inland where it is best grown in the shelter of a warm sunny wall. The evergreen leaves are deep green above, lighter beneath with a soft grey down, giving an overall effect of grey foliage. Plants are smothered in a white froth of blooms in early summer.
